Electrical Safety Certificates
EICR safety reports in Solihull
An Electrical Installation Condition Report is a formal safety check of the fixed wiring in a property. DGC Electrical carries out EICRs for Solihull landlords and homeowners, with clear results and any remedial work quoted up front, no jargon, no surprises.
Who needs one
Do you need an EICR?
If you're a private landlord in England, the law requires the electrical installation in your rental to be inspected and tested at least every five years, with a satisfactory EICR provided to tenants and, on request, the local authority. It's also strongly recommended for homeowners, particularly when buying or selling a property, or if the installation is more than a decade old and has never been formally checked.
An EICR tells you whether the wiring, consumer unit, sockets and connections are safe to continue in use, or whether anything needs attention. It's the difference between assuming a property is safe and knowing it is.
What the inspection covers
Working to the 18th Edition wiring regulations, we inspect and test the fixed electrical installation and record the condition of:
- The consumer unit (fuse board) and its protective devices
- Fixed wiring, cabling and connections throughout the property
- Sockets, switches, isolators and accessories
- Earthing and bonding arrangements
- Signs of damage, wear, overloading or overheating
- Circuits that no longer meet current safety standards
You will receive a clear and comprehensive report with any issues coded by severity (C1, C2, C3 and FI). This will also be supported with photographic evidence of any findings. If remedial work is needed, we explain exactly what and why, and quote it before doing anything.

EICR FAQs
Common questions
How often do landlords need an EICR?
Private rented homes in England must have a satisfactory EICR at least every five years, or sooner if the report specifies. A copy must be given to tenants and supplied to the local authority on request.
How long does an EICR take?
For a typical home it usually takes a few hours depending on the size of the property and the number of circuits. We'll give you a realistic time when you book.
What happens if the report is unsatisfactory?
An unsatisfactory result means one or more issues need putting right to make the installation safe. We explain each item, quote the remedial work up front, and re-issue a satisfactory certificate once it's done.
Do you carry out the remedial work too?
Yes. As a full electrical contractor we can complete any remedial work identified, from a single repair to a consumer unit upgrade, and certify it.
